
Janice Burba Gibson

Janice was born and raised in Tulsa. She got interested in golf by following her father around the golf course. Janice was a Rolex Junior All America in 1978 and 1979. Janice graduated from Tulsa Hale High School in 1979. She was the only girl on the boys’ golf team.
Janice was medalist three times at the WOGA State Amateur Championship and she played in the finals three times, but never won the trophy.
Janice played at Oklahoma State from 1979 to 1983. Janice won twice in her junior year, and was part of the Cowgirl team that finished third in the nation. Janice earned Third Team All America recognition. Janice won the Big 8 Championship her senior year. She graduated in 1984.
After graduating from Oklahoma State, Janice began playing on the Futures Tour. Janice won twice in 1985. In 1986, Janice earned her LPGA tour card. Janice never won a tournament in 228 starts. Her career best finish was a tie for 5th. She retired after the 1998 season.
In the spring of 2001, Janice became the first Program Director for the new First Tee Program of Tulsa. Since its inception, more than 9,200 students have enrolled in the program. Including the outreach programs, more than 15,000 kids have been exposed to golf. Tulsa’s chapter is one of the largest junior golf programs in the country.
