Susie Maxwell Berning is a three-tiime U.S. Women’s Open champion, having prevailed in the game’s greatest event in 1968, and then back-to-back in 1972 and 1973. She is one of only four women to win three Opens.

Susie grew up in Oklahoma City, learning the game under the tutelage of legendary Lincoln Park pro U.C. Ferguson. After graduating from Oklahoma City University, she began her career on the LPGA Tour in 1964. Success came quickly as she  won the Muskogee Civitan and the Western Open in 1965. The Western Open was then considered a major championship by the LPGA.

In 1964 Susie was named the LPGA Rookie of the Year.  In 1967, she was named the LPGA Tour’s Most Improved Player. she began her Open run the following year. In all, she won 11 LPGA tournaments including four majors. The LPGA has recognized Susie as one of its top 50 players and teachers.
