The Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame is pleased to announce its scholarship recipients for 2019 are Blayne Barker from Durant and Carson Rainbolt of Bartlesville.
Both will receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year.
Barker, who will play collegiate golf for Oklahoma City University, plans to major in sports psychology. She won the Class 5A state championship by four shots while leading Durant to the team championship this spring. Barker maintained an excellent grade point average and was named to the Class 5A All Academic team each year of her career. She is also active in the Lady Lion Junior Golf Development program and in the Durant Animal Rescue Alliance, among other activities.
Rainbolt, who plans to study biology at Oklahoma State University, was also an honor roll student in high school while leading the Bruins golf team and was one of two Bartlesville players to qualify as an individual for the Class 6A state championship. A budding entrepreneur, he raised funds for his high school team by designing and selling T-shirts and has been very active as a leader both in his church and in junior golf at the Adams Golf Club Clinic.
“We had a great group of applications this year,” said Lew Erickson, chair of the scholarship committee. “As always, the committee is amazed at the talent that applied. Blayne and Carson stood out and we’re happy they will be our 2019 recipients.”
Tom Jones, Chairman of the OGHOF board also said, “I look forward to recognizing our two scholarship recipients at this years Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. The quality of applicants for these scholarships is very humbling and encouraging for the future of golf in Oklahoma.”
The two will be honored at the 2019 Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame Induction ceremony Nov. 24 at Southern Hills Country Club. The 2019 class includes Melissa Luellen (McNamara), Orville Moody, Bill Glasson, Jim Awtrey and William Nichols.
